    Petition of Rights
    The petition of rights limited the kings power in several ways. It no longer allowed the king to imprison or punish any person but by the lawful judgement of his peers or by the law of the land.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    A bill that parliment created stating to all monarchs after parliment, that a standing army during times of peace is prohibited. Also included guarantees as the right to a fair trial as well as freedom from excessive bail and from cruel and unusual punishment.

    The 13 colonies were having difficulties trading because of attacks due to the native americans. A meeting between 7 northern colonies where Benjamin Franklin discussed a very well thought plan that brought all of the colonies to unite. When brought to the crown and other colonies it was turned down.

    A meeting that lasted for 2 months with some of the wisest people to live. Topics focused on the worsening situation that the king was delivering to the colonies. The created a Declaration of Rights and sent it to King George the III

    3 weeks prior to this meeting started the revolutionary war and this meeting was to establish law for there new country. John Hancock was chosen president of Congress and George Washington was appointed commander-in-chief.

    shortly a year after the revoulutionary war has begun, Richard Henry Lee of Virginia proposed for a declaration of independence from Brittian. A committe of 5; Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Thomas Jefferson (wrote the most) created and made this statement and it was signed by many of members from the colonies.

    Off and on for 17 months congress debated on a solution of uniting the colonies. The articles of confederation established a firm league of friendship among the states.

    Ten years after the revoulutionary war, many soldiers who fought in the same war, came up in protest about the new government. They laid down there lives for what they were now fighting to change. The rebellion ended when the Constitution of the United States was created in Philidelphia.

    The Philadelphia Convention began as a meeting to revise the articles of confederation. It quickly turned directions and it became the meeting where the Constitution of the United States was created.

    James Madison created the Virginia plan and it was presented by Randolph. It was the first plan offered to the new constitution.

    After the Virginia Plan was in discussion, New jersey came up with a plan shortly after and did not agree on many things that the Virginia plan agreed on. There main disputes between the two plans were how the states would be represented in congress. Compromise eventually came and is still in order
