    Around 300 AD, the Soninke began to join together. This is important because this is the very begginings of Ghana. It had the effect on the people of making them somewhat united.

    At this time Ghana was extremely rich and powerful. This was the height of their power. This must of felt very good for the people of Ghana to know they were one of the best countries in the world.

    Ghana was attacked by Muslims called the Almoravids around 1060. This is very important because this was the first of a series of attacks that would weaken the empire, and eventualy kill it. They did not control Ghana very long but, they did cut off many trade routes. This brought the economy from being very rich, to very poor.

    The Almoravids brought many herds of animals with them into Ghana. These animals ate all the animals in many pastures and left the soil exposed to hot desrt winds. These winds blew the soil ,that was good for farming, away. This made many of the people in Ghana not have enough food to eat.

    The last thing that sealed Ghana's fait was when the people of one of the countries Ghana had conquered, started a revult. Within a few years the rebels took over all of Ghana. However, after they gained control, they relised they could not control Ghana. As a result of this weakness One of Ghana's neighbors attacked and defeated them. This most of made the people of Ghana not people of Ghana anymore because Ghana no longer existed.

    This event is important because by this time, Ghana had control of all west African trade roots. The impact on the people was that the trade routes were safer and they gained very much wealth.
