    The Franco-Prussian war was started because of Otto Von Bismarck who edited the Ems Dispatch. He made it seem as though the French had been insulted. The French king immediatly declared war and the end result was Prussia beating the French badly.

    Second Reich was the next German Empire and some believed it would be like the next Holy Roman Empire. It lasted up until 1918 when Germany became a federal republic.

    Catholics made up 1/3 of German population at the time. Bismarck starts the “Kulturkampf” or battle for civilazation. Eventually this campaign backfires on Bismarck and he tries to make peace with the Church.
