    Napolean Raids German Lands

    Napolean made important territorial changes om German-speaking lands. He annexed lands along the Rhine River for France. He dissolved the Holy Roman Empire by forcing the emperor of Austrai to agree to lesser the title of the King. He also organized a number of German states into the Rhine Confederation.

  • Frankfurt Assembly

    During the Frankfurt Assembly, Eurpoean Liberals demanded German political unity. They offered the throne of a united German state to rederick William IV of Prussia. The Prussian ruler, however, rejected the notion of a throne offered by "the people".
  • Bismarck--Prime Minister

    Otto von Bismarck was named the 23rd Prime Minister of Prussia. Within 10 years, he had become "Chancellor", the higest offial of a monarch. His "blood and iron" policy earned him the nickname of "The Iron Chancellor."
