This operation was significant because the U.S. wanted to find and capture the Vietcong headquarters which was believed to be in the Saigon area. We unfortunately failed to find this base.

    Operation Junction City was one of the biggest air assults to take place in the Vietnam war. The significance for this operation is to take control and destroy Vietcong bases in South Vietnam. About 30,000 troops are a part of this operation along with around 5,000 soldiers from the South Vietnamese Army.

    About 200 citizens are killed by U.S. Charlie Company and only one soldier is convicted of war crimes. This caused many soliders and people to question war. Although these tragedies didn't happen often, when they did, everyone felt the effects of war crimes.

    Operation Rolling Thunder finally comes to an end after three and a half years of being an active operation. Some of the destruction of the operation include: 900 American aircraft, 818 pilots are dead or have gone missing, and hundreds are also being held captive.

    Peace talks in Paris continue
    Peace talks continue in Paris between the United States and North Vietnam and in March of 1973 the final combat soldiers in Vietnam leave. Marines and other military personnel who are protecting U.S. bases have to stay in South Vietnam. More than three million Americans served in the Vietnam war with 58,000 of them killed in action. About 1,000 of them are missing in action and 150,000 are seriously wounded.
