President Truman created this policy to counteract the Soviet Union. this document made it so other countries could have Americans help fight communism.This has helped the Soviet Union is many different ways and has made them stronger. -
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) established
The purpose of this organization was to ensure the Soviet Union did not expand. As well as America wanted to be fear by Soviet Union by placing arms forces in Europe. Europe and America teamed up to defeat the Soviet Union. -
Berlin Airlift
Soviets blocked west Berlin from roads to access goods. America sent air lifts to drop off food for the people of Berlin. This was great for both the USA and the people of Berlin. -

Soviet Union tested the first atomic bomb in Kazakhstan. They kept animals in cages new by so they could test to see how it would affect humans. Finally, the bomb was successful. -

North Korea invaded South Korea, which began the war. America was trying to prevent communism from spreading, so America and South Korea wanted to become allies with one another. The American troops did not come and join the war until July of 1950. -
Warsaw Pact formed
As the Warsaw Pact started, America had many enemies with Eastern Europe. Many countries gave up military power to the Soviets because the soviets offered protection. The Soviet Union saw NATO and responded with the Warsaw Pact. -
Soviets launch first man made satellite
The Soviets Union launched Sputnik into space. This was a satellite that orbited the earth. It was very frightening to the United States in particular because the U.S. was not sure that the USSR's intentions were. -
Bay of Pigs
Fidel Castro, who was communist, came into power in Cuba. Americans were worried about communism being a threat. The CIA trained men to be sent over to Cuba to overthrow Castro, but this unfortunately failed. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Soviet Union was in an alliance with Cuba and was bring over nuclear weapons. United States was afferd of the results of this outcome. The U.S. had their Navy surround Cuba to prevent the USSR from being more weapons. -

College students were protesting political and economic reform. The chinese government did not like protesters out on the streets, so they started to take violent action. The chinese government started to kill off the protesters. -
Berlin Wall Falls
As citizens were allowed to cross the Berlin Wall, they started to destroy the wall. Soon after, the government got bulldozers and started to knock down the Berlin wall. -
East Germany allows unrestricted migration to West Germany.
Germany built the Berlin Wall to seperate Eastern and Western Berlin.In 1989, they reopend the Berlin wall so citizens could go back and forth between Eastern and Western Berlin. -
Germany Unity Day
German Unity Day was a big celebration for Germany because they became one. More than 100,000 people showed to help celebrate Germany's unification. -
Coup
In The USSR there were two parties, the Democrats and The communist. they were both fighting for control of the USSR. The Coup caused Gorbachev to be overthrown. -
The Fall of the USSR
Soviet Union had fallen because of racial reforms of the leader, Mikhail Gorbachev. Gorbachev was upset by his people so they reformed from being their leader. For the his people it was a peaceful end to a long in one of the worst events in history.
