Gaming Industry Timeline

  • Nintendo Created

    Originally a trading card company, Niintendo eventually grows to become one of the biggest names in the gaming industry.
  • Sony Created

    Sony grows to also become one of the pioneers/gians of the gaming industry
  • ENIAC

    This was one of the very first computer systems, no more than a huge set of switches and plugs that could output chunks of data. Technology grew from this to produce teh gaming industry we know today.
  • TV's rise in popularity

    The rise of TV from 1949-1960 is what led to the rise of the home console video gaming industry.
  • Hard Drive

    The first solid state hard drive created. Opened the door for large amount of data storage with relative ease of access.
  • Tennis for Two

    T42 was the first video game ever created! Eventually adapted to the famous arcade game, Pong.
  • Maxnivox Oddyssey Created

    Ralph H. Baer created the first TV console, the Brown Box, and the Magnivox is the eventual final product they released to the public. Changed the accessability of the gaming industry forever.
  • Atari Created

    One of the more accessable and most used early gaming systems, this made home gaming a neccessity.
  • PONG created

    Pong was the first co op arcade game, and was fun for everyone. It's incredibly simplistic graphics and easy to master controls were the begginnings of retro gaming.
  • Microsoft Created

    Microsoft was truley a pioneer of computer technology as well as the gaming industry.
  • Colossal Cave Adventure

    The first-ish text based adventure game was instumental in creating popularity for the gaming industry.
  • Zork

    A heavily story driven game, this text based adventure was extremely popular when video games were first being created, and it's style was copied and reused for years to come.
  • TRS-80

    One of the earliest computers, this piece of junk couldn't do much, but it was the first home computer made for hard core enthusiasts.
  • MARIO!!

    Mario, one of the most well known video game icons, makes his first appearance in Donkey Kong, as the barrel jumping protagonist.
  • Super Mario Bros. (NES) released

    Super Mario Bros. set the precedent for almost all of the platformer games to come. Almost all platformers made after this game took some elements from it.
  • PacMan created

    This is one of the most successful video games of all time, and it was a fun game that could be played by anybody with 25 cents.
  • Gameboy first created

    The gameboy was one of the first hand held consoles to be released.
  • SEGA VR headset announced

    The SEGA VR headset was one of the first virtual reality headsets to be created, and are potentially the beginning of a brand new branch of the gaming industry.
  • Doom released

    Doom was one of the first gorey FPS games, and this set up the American public to handle future game releases.
  • JAVA language is created

    The JAVA programming language was one of the key programming languages that influenced the video game industry.
