  • Child Find

    Child Find
    The school district is responsible for locating, identifying, and evaluating unserved and underserved children with disabilities (IDEA Regulations, 34 C.F.R. 300.220).
    This includes all students with disabilities between the ages of birth to age 21.
    State may choose how to notify the public of services available. A referral can be made by a parent or another individual such as the teacher. Parent must be notified of referral in writing, if made by another individual other than the parent.
  • Disposition of Referral

    Disposition of Referral
    Once referral is made, the IEP team must schedule a meeting with the parents within 15 calendar days to determine if the student may have a disability and recommend further evaluation. The parent must give written permission before school can evaluate. The IEP team consists of parents,special ed.teacher, regular ed. teacher, an LEA, and an individual to interpret evaluation results.
  • Evaluation

    Evaluation
    Must be completed within 45 calendar days after school received written parental consent for the evaluations. One 15 day extension may be given with parent and school district consent. Evaluation must be completed by a certified licensed evaluator. Parents must be given a copy of the results, and can request an independant educational evaluation at public or own expense.
  • Determination of Eligibility

    Determination of Eligibility
    IEP team must determine if the child is eligible for special education services. In order to receive a FAPE the child must be determined to have 1 or more disabilities that are 1 of the 14 categories defined in NH Rules, and require special education services and any related services. The IEP team must also include a teacher certified in each area of suspected disability.
  • IEP

    IEP
    The IEP team will develop the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) within 30 days after child is found eligible for special education services. The IEP needs to be in place at the start of each school year. The IEP must be signed by the parents and school district in order to be in effect.
  • Placement

    Placement
    The team must decide upon the least restrictive environment that the student will receive special education and related services. This process will take place after the parent and school district agree to and sign the IEP.
  • Progress Monitoring

    Progress Monitoring
    The IEP team will meet at least once each year to review and revise the student's IEP. If there are concerns, more meetings may be necessary. Parents must be given 10 days written notice of an upcoming IEP meeting.
