Creation
I was born in 2003 in the Philippines, to this day I still find it interesting I made my way all the way here. -
Moved to Australia
I wasn’t aware of video games until I got into Australia, this is like my first encounter with video games at all. -
Pokemon Platinum/HeartGold
The whole fourth generation of Pokémon games on the DS are the first games I honestly remember playing. I first had Pokémon Platinum and Heart Gold for my birthday and got a Diamond copy for winning a talent show in primary school sometime after. We went to a Cash Converters and got DP for roughly $15. Turns out that copy of DP was hacked and had every Pokémon with max stats. HG/PT introduced me into the world of video games. Game Freak 2008, Pokemon Platinum, video game, Nintendo DS, Nintendo -
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Super Smash Bros Brawl was my first encounter with competitive video games, fighting games, the later Smash Bros instalments and the culture of the FGC (fighting game community) as a whole. I wasn’t actually competitive in this game, as I was 7 at the time, but it was like first contact and foreshadowing my interests now regarding the FGC and competitive video games. 2008, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, video game, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo -
Undertale
Not as much to say here, but I do believe Undertale did have the most impact on me, down to my sense of humour and how I try to live my life. I was completely sucked into this world, its characters, everything. There was something special about this game that hasn’t been replicated by any other game (even it’s successor, Deltarune). There was something unique about this game and how it affected me, but I’m not sure how to put it into words. Toby Fox 2015, Undertale, video game, PC, Toby Fox -
Brawlhalla
Brawlhalla is a platform fighter based on the Super Smash Bros. series and was the first ever game I got genuinely good at. When I was playing the game competitively, I was top 50-100 in the AU. Once, I few interstate to compete in a LAN tournament in Sydney for a $300ish prize pool. This was my first taste of high level gameplay ever. I remember walking back from high school and grinding the game nonstop until nighttime. Blue Mammoth Games 2014, Brawlhalla, video game, PC, Blue Mammoth Games -
Just Cause 2: Multiplayer Mod
JC2:MP was the first game where I felt like I had a second family. In other multiplayer games, you can communicate and become friends, like in TF2 or MineCraft for example. The difference is, because the player base is so dense, every interaction isn’t as personal, everyone there are strangers at best. Due to the player base being incredibly small, the community is extremely tight knit and welcoming. Avalanche Studios Group 2010, Just Cause 2, video game, PC, Square Enix -
Katana ZERO
Katana ZERO is the first game I've tried speedrunning seriously. I believe my fastest time uploaded to speedrun.com is 511th out of 3000ish total speedruns of the game. Not too bad seeing as I have started playing seriously a week ago. The game is A1, the story is interesting and unique, the gameplay is intense, the music is great, and the game is literally beautiful. I believe KZ will get me into the speedrunning community.
