    The end of the French and Indian war

    The treaty of Paris of 1763 ended the French and Indian war seven years after it began. Ultimately Britain won in the war and expelled France from North America. They took control of the land that had been claimed by France.

    The parliament wanted more money from North American colonies. They pass the first law specifically to make money. It increased all the good ship to the colonies. It was a strong tax on sugar, molasses and other products imported to the American colonies from non-British sources. The sugar act was significant because it was the first time the parliament put tax on American colonies for the purpose of Money.

    Stamp Act

    Stamp Act was the parliament‘s first direct tax on the American colonies. It was to raise more money for Britain. Tit taxed newspapers, pamphlets, legal documents, even playing cards. Many American colonies refused to pay the stamp act. Most of the Americans called for a boycott of British goods in organized attacks on the tax collectors. Benjamin Franklin appealed the British and in March 1766. The parliament voted to repeal the stamp act.

    The Declaratory act was passed on the very same day that the stamp act was repealed. It was basically the parliament saying they can make laws on all American colonies “in all cases whatsoever. “ the colonies ignored the act.

    Townshend Act

    The parliament passed the act which initiated taxes on tea, paint paper, lead glass, etc. the colonies discouraged, the purchase of British imports. This new tax just infuriated everyone on the injustice. It was also used to have jurisdiction over smuggling and custom shipments to British naval courts rather than the colonial courts. The courts were created to prosecute, violators and smugglers. The smuggling increased the American colonies, saw this as an abuse of power.

    The parliament passed the act and gave India companies a tax break on their tea, so it was cheaper than the tea that was being smuggled into the colonies. it was removed in 1861.

The American army was victorious in the revolutionary war. George Washington proved to be a leader. This is where, American independence happened. There were many causes that led to the American revolution.
