    Colonization
    As soon as Europeans reached the new world,they started the colombian exchange.They traded crops and cattle but they also brought diseases, that native americans had no immunity too, which cause alot of damage to native americans.Gold was the reason Europeans returned and it led to settlements in the new world. The colonies were the new england colonies, the middle colonies and the southern countries.This was an important event because it was the start of what we now call our land.

    The colonies rebelled when England tried to rule.Colonies refused to pay taxes stating "they were being taxed without fair representation of british parliment".After alot of protest, fighting broke out between the british and the colonies,begining the american revolution and although the soldiers were untrained they beat the prepared british soldiers.This was important because it showed that americans prevailed, no matter what the odds and we were strong together.

    Articles of confideration
    Before the revolutionary war even ended,the continental congress made the Articles of confederation.'This was a “firm league of friendship” between the states.'They didn't want to replace the government of the king with another strong central government.This new government was made to be weak enough to allow the states to have most of the power.This was an important part of forming the united states because it was the first written document of rules with seperated powers,even with its flaws.

    Alexander Hamilton writes a paper saying Republicanism is not a peaceful form of governent, and that the Confederation will not work because they can not rule every state. He said if that if each state had their own rules, it would cause a rift between the states. This is an important event because it brought the idea of seperation of powers.

    The Bil of rights were parts of the constitutions of the several states of the time, placed there to make sure that certain rights were recognized by the government. The antifederalist insisted on tthese amendments to protect individual freedom. This was an important event because it gaureented certain freedoms for every citizen. For example, freedom of religion or bear arms.

    Manifest Destiny
    "John O'Sullivan published an article related to boundary disputes between the US and Britain over the Oregon Territory" This Caused the us governemnt and citizen to expand to spread the ideas of liberty and democracy. In 1846, Britain and the u.s agreed to divide Oregon and it became the northern boundary of the United States. This is important because it caused people to settle around the united states and americans covered more of our land.
  • War with Mexico

    War with Mexico
    After Mexico and the United States had problems over Texas, they soon after started the war.By the end of 1846, the US had won several victories in Northern Mexico and seized the California Territory. Mexico refused to surrender and we invaded mexico city and they surrendered unconditionally.The signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the war on February 2, 1849. This was important because the us gained territory.

    James Wilson Marshall discovered gold at Sutter's Mill. This caused excitement and chaos across california. This caused people all over north america to go to california. Then other nations came to california and were called the fourty niners. This was important because it brought wealth not only to citizens but eventually the country.

    The temperance movement
    The temperance movement in the United States first came out in the early nineteenth century. the first source of the movement was of the popular religion that focused on abstention from alcohol. Evangelical preachers of various Christian religions claimed drinking alcohol as a sin. People who drank, lost their faith in God and couldn't practice the teachings of Jesus. This was an important event in forming america beacuse it started including church teachings in the u.s laws.
  • Homestead Act

    Homestead Act
    The Homestead Act was signed into by Abraham Lincoln. 30 of the 50 states contained lands available for settlement under the Homestead Act."The Homestead Act was responsible for the settlement and distribution of 270 million acres of land in the United States".Women, African Americans, and immigrants from anywhere could claim land under the Homestead Act. This spread the movement of people and therefore was a very important event for america.
