The Korean War was one of the first military actions of the Cold War. Americans believed that the reason for the war was against the international forces of communism.

During the first day of school at Central Highschool, a large group of white people gathered in front of the school and the National Guard was sent by Governor Orval Faubus to stop the nine African American students from attending the Highschool. Soon enough a large group of NAACP lawyers came together including Thurgood Marshall and won a federal district court injunction to prevent the governor from blocking the students way in. The students finally walked into the school on September 23 1957

In March 1965, President Johnson decided to send U.S. combat forces to fight in Vietnam. 82,000 troops were stationed in Vietnam by June 1965. By the end of 1965 General William Westmoreland wanted 175,000 more combat troops sent over to Vietnam.

On March 30, 1981 John Hinckley Jr. opened fire on Reagan infront of the Washington Hilton Hotel. The bullet only punctured his lung. After only 12 days in the hospitial Reagan was sent home.
