Rock & Roll was a musical style that emerged in the mid-1950s. It originated from the rhythm and blues music of the 1940s. In 1953 Elvis Presley is discovered. In the movie it shows how Forrest taught Elvis the crazy dance. -
Vietnam War
Chapter 29: The Vietnam War Era (Section 1) The Vietnam War was a conflict between North Vietnam and its allies known as Viet Cong against South Vietnam and its allies the U.S. More than 3 million people (including 58,000 Americans) were killed in the war. In 1975 communist forces seized control of Saigon and eventually ending the Vietnam War. The North Vietnamese took home the victory. -
Integration of the Youth
This incident occurred at the University of Alabama on June 11, 1963. George Wallace stood at the door to try to block the entry of two black students, Vivian Malone and James Hood. He was on an attempt to keep his inaugural promise and stop the desegregation of schools. -
John F. Kennedy Asassinated
Chapter 28: The Kennedy and Johnson Years (Section 2) 35th President Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. Kennedy was shot by a sniper while traveling with his wife Jacqueline. An investigation concluded that Kennedy was assassinated by Harvey Oswald. -
Robert Kennedy Assassination
After midnight on June 5, 1968, presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy was shot three times by Palestinian immigrant Sirhan Sirhan. He was killed after giving a speech at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Robert Kennedy mainly died because of the wounds he suffered from the shots. -
Nike Inc. Founded
This company was founded on January 25, 1965 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. During this time Phil was a track athlete at the University of Oregon and Bill was his coach. On May 30, 1971 it became Nike Inc. The company was named after the Greek goddess of victory. It became one of the largest suppliers of athletic shoes and apparel. -
Assassination Attempt of George Wallace
In 1972 the assassination attempt of governor of Alabama , George Wallace left him paralyzed. 21 year old Arthur Bremer was found guilty. The next day he won major victories in Michigan and Maryland while fighting for his life. -
Watergate Scandal
It was a political scandal in which there was a break-in at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters at the Watergate office in Washington, D.C. As a result, the Nixon administration tried to cover it up. It all began with the arrest of five men who broke into the DNC headquarters. Due to the illegal activities committed by the Nixon administration, the scandal led to the resignation of President Nixon. -
Hurricane Carmen
Hurricane Carmen was one of the most intense tropical storms of the 1974 Atlantic hurricane season. It emerged as a tropical disturbance which emerged from Africa. It soon entered the Gulf of Mexico and approached the United States. The hurricane killed a total of 8 people and caused damage worth $162 million.
