Civil Rights Movement
The goal was to end racial segregation and discrimination against black Americans. Many non-violent protests took place such as sit-ins and marches as an act of civil disobedience. The civil rights act, voting rights act, fair housing act, and immigration and nationality services were passed during this time which helped black Americans earn their individuality and rights as Americans. During the civil rights movement, Forrest had been involved in a stand in at the school house door and more. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnam war is also known as the Second Indochina War. It was a conflict between North and South VIetnam about what the main governing power would be. The North was fighting for a communist power but the South was for a non-communist governement. The war ended with the North taking control of the South and turning Vietnam's government into communism. Forrest Gump enlisted into the army and was sent to fight in the Vietnam War. He befriends Bubba during the war and saves 4 men when ambushed. -
Evlis Presley and 1950's rock n' roll
Elvis Presley was the king of rock n' roll and launched the rock revoluion. He is known as the king of rock. In the movie, Elvis stays at the boarding home and spent some time with Forrest. Elvis would play on his guitar and then Forrest would do some crazy dance that Elvis liked. The dance then became famous when Elvis performed. -
Hippie Culture
The Hippie culture started during the mid 1960's. Their main belief was their disapproval of the Vietnam War. Forrest was attending the Hippie Movement and was going to present a speech on his opinion of the war. When he was about to begin the speaker malfunctioned so his speech was never heard. This actually happened to a soldier at the hippie movement. -
Stand in the school house door
This event took place at the Foster Auditorium at the University of Alabama. Due to Brown vs Board of Education, the University of Alabama had to desegregate their schools but the Democratic govenor would not allow it so he stood in front of the doors to not let them in. Forrest watches this occur but goes to pick up vivian's books when they fell and gave them back to her as she walked in. -
March on Washington (Vietnam War)
This is also the Hippie Movement which is when people (hippies and soldiers) get together to state their protests on the Vietnam War. This is a form of civil disobedience. Forrests goes to give a speech but is not able to when the speaker malfunctioned. -
Watergate Scandal
The watergate scandal was a political scandal when there was a break in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate Office Complex in Washington D.C. Forrest was staying at the Watergate hotel and witnessed the break in though his window. -
Hurricane Carmen
Before hurricane Carmen, Forrest and Dan couldn't catch any shrimp. Hurricane Carmen was the most intense tropical cyclone. After Hurricane Carmen, Dan and Forrest caught so much shrimp that they were able to start their own business and call it Bubba Gump. -
Apple Computers
Apple computers is an American multinational technology company. It is the world's second largest information technology company. Dan invests in apple after forrest moved back home. Their investment started apple's rise and success. -
HIV/AIDS outbreak
HIV/Aids are diseases that you can't get rid of easily. Jenny was diagnosed with HIV. She told Forrest at the same time that she told him that he had a son. Jenny died a few months later but left a big impact of Forrest and Forrest Jr. -

largest theft in US history
In boston, Massachuttes at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, two thieves acted like policemen and stole twelve paintings worth $100-200 million. Forrest Gump Jr. is on a school field trip and likes the paintings he saw but when they were leaving they disappeared. He questioned the teacher and then helped the police find the two culprits. -
Terrorist attack.
Two airplanes crash into the twin towers in New York due to terrorists. Forrest gump jr was on a run and saw a woman bring ccrushed by a part of a building. Everyone else was busy so he took it upon himself to save the woman's life from the destruction of the twin towers. The two got to know eachother really well so they then fell in love. One year later they married. -
shooting at Northern Illinois University
A student kills 5 students and injures 21. He then kills himself. Forrrest Gump Jr. attends Northern Illinois University and happens to be his roomate. The news questions him about why his roommate would've done it. Forrest Jr. disn't know his motives and only knew that he never cleaned his part of the room.
