the rise of the hippie movement
In the 1960's some youth groups started the hippie counter culture movement. The hippies were young groups ( 18-35 ) rejecting the elders culture and standards for an alternative culture of their own. The Hippie movement started in San Francisco, California and spread across the United States. Some of their beliefs were free love, free spirit, drugs, peace and music. -
John F. Kennedy elected president
On November 20th, 1960 JFK was elected president of the USA. JFK has been the only roman catholic president of the USA. He is also the youngest man ever elected president of the USA. On November 22, 1963 JFK was assasinated in Dallas, texas. -
LBJ sworn in as president of the USA ( Chapter 29- vietnam war era, section 1 )
LBJ was elected vice president in 1960. On November 22 after JFK's assassination LBJ became the president of the USA. In 1968 Johnson decided not to run for re-election and said that he want to focus on peace process. -

On Friday, November 22, 1963, JFK was shot by a sniper at 12:30 pm in Dallas, texas. According to the US government investigations, Lee Harvey Oswald is the assassinator of JFK. There are a lot of different conspiracy theories about Kennedys assassination while no one actually knows why was Kennedy killed. -

The black panther party was a revolutionary group that called for the arming of black people. It was founded by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale in late October, 1966. The organization was at its peak in the late 1960's and the membership exceeded 2,000. -
Robert F. Kennedy, Assassinated
June 6, 1968 at 1:44 am, Robert F. Kennedy was shot three times in Los Angeles, California. He was shot by palestinian immigrant Sirhan Sirhan. 26 hours later, Robert died of his wounds in Good Samaritan Hospital. There are different conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination of the Kennedys while no one actually know the truth. -
American Moon Landing
On July 20, 1969, America beat Russia to the moon. As part of the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong became the very first man to walk on moon. Some people considered it the mankind's greatest achievments. I agree with Armstrongs word, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind", -

The ping pong diplomacy was during Nixon years. It was a diplomacy between the USA and China. The American ping pong team went to china to play a match with the chinese team. The ping pong diplomacy also led to opening of formal relations between the USA and China. -
John Lennon "Imagine"
On september 9, 1971, "Imagine" was released, written by John Lennon. The main purpose of imagine was hoping for world peace. As Lennon said "[Imagine] is anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic... but because it is sugar-coated, it is accepted." Imagine was the best known work of John Lennon. -
watergate scandal ( A cirsis in confidence Chapter 31, section 1 )
In the morning of June 17, 1972, A group of burglars broke into the Democratic headquarters. They got caught and Nixon tried to cover it by lying but people found out. Nixon eventually turned the tapes over after many conversations were deleted. After the watergate scandal Nixon knew he was going to be impeached so he chose to resign presidency. -
Nixon resigns presidency
On the 9th of August, 1974, President Richard M. Nixon resigned presidency after 2 years of public debate over the watergate scandals. Nixon was the first American president to resign. After his resignation, Nixon continued writing and completed nine books. Nixon died of lung cancer on june 22, 1993. -
Hurricane carmen
Hurricane Carmen hit the Atlantic Coast on August 29 and lasted until September 10th, in 1974. The wind speed was over 150 mph. The United States damage was estimated at $150 million. The hurricane caused 8 deaths and more than 2300 injuries.
