The change was meant to alter attitudes and socialization of children. They thought that starting this with children at a young age would make it easier to accept.

    The war was between the communist regime of North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam had allies known as the Viet Cong and North Vietnam had the United States as its principal ally. After President Richard Nixon ordered the withdrawal of US forces, the communist forces seized control of Saigon. This ended the Vietnam War and the country was unified as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
