Vietnam War
After Kennedy’s death,LBJ,honored Kennedy’s commitments but hoped to keep U.S. involvement in Vietnam low. After North Vietnamese forces attacked U.S. Navy ships in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964,Johnson was given carte blanche in the form of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and sent troops to Vietnam. Antiwar movement within the U.S. gained speed as protesters, hippies, and Americans denounced the war causing low support and troop withdrawal

Integration of Alabama University
Two African American students were already accepted into the University of Alabama and upon arrival they were met with resistance of the Governor of Alabama and school peers. The deputy of the state called in the National Guard and the studets were admitted into the school. -
John F. Kennedy Assasinated
In 1963 in Dallas, riding in a parade to drum up support for the upcoming presidential election in 1964, JFK was shot twice by Lee Harvey Oswald and pronounced dead at The Parkland hospital. Lee Harvey Oswald, the supposed assassin of President Kennedy before assassinating Kennedy had defected to Russia and upon returning became a member of a pro-Castro group in America. He never got to stand trial or issue a formal statement before he was murdered.

Blank Panthers Created
The original purpose of this organization was to arm citizens' and patrols to monitor the behavior of officers of the Oakland Police Department and challenge police brutality in Oakland, California. Robert F. Kennedy Assasinated
On June 5, 1968, presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy was shot at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, shortly after winning the California presidential primaries in the 1968 election. Kennedy was fatally shot while exiting through the hotel kitchen immediately after leaving the podium in the Ambassador Hotel and died twenty-six hours later. The United States' Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon, on July 1969. In October 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik as the first artificial satellite to orbit the Earth and initiated the Space Race. The U.S. response to these Soviet achievements was to greatly increase existing military space and missile projects, create NASA, and increase scientific and engineering education within the U.S. which helped the U.S. compete in the space race. -
