Presley started to sing his famous song "Hound Dog" with his pelvish-shaking dances that suprised the Americans. However, critics nationwide were disgusted by his dance and said that it was "vulgarity" and "animalism". No one would hire him as Ed Sullivan inquired. He agreed to appear on the Allen's show with a white formal wear and to sing "Hound Dog" to a basset hound.

United States damage was estimated at $150 million. The storm obiliterated a total of 2,380,500 acres and brought salt water into the marshes which caused stress on the fish and shrimp in the area and caused minor ecological effects.
