    The Election of 1800
    The Election of 1800 began with Jefferson defeating Adams. Jefferson did not fully win yet since he tied with his running mate Aaron Burr. The voting between Burr and Jefferson was sent to the House of Reps, it took 6 days and 35 votes. It took so long because everyone time the House of Reps voted, they would tie. Alexander Hamilton decided to stand in front of the Federalists and told them to vote for Jefferson, he did this because of a feud with Burr. Finally on the 36th vote, Jefferson won.

    Thomas Jefferson's Presidency
    Thomas Jefferson was one of the seven founding fathers and served as the third president of the United States starting from March 4, 1801 through March 4, 1809. Two of his main accomplishments was writing the Declaration of Independence, and buying land from France called the "Louisiana Purchase" to expand the United States. During his presidency he also accomplished many other things like, reducing taxes, lowering the national debt, and lowering the amount of money the government spent.

    The Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase was an important deal in the United States history because we more than doubled the size of the country. We gained the land buying from a French leader named, Napoleon, he was in need for some quick money so he sold it to Jefferson for only 4 cents an acre. The benefits that came with this purchase were, access to new trading routes, encouraged us to keep expanding westward, and we gained new resources. However, this purchase did create even more conflict with the Natives.

    James Madison's Presidency
    James Madison was one of the seven founding fathers and served as America's fourth president starting from March 4, 1809 to March 4, 1817. Two of Madison's main accomplishments was helping the Constitution get ratified by writing the Federalist Papers, and he also helped write the Bill of Rights which would later be added into the Constituition. Madison also helped draft the "Virginia Plan" in hopes of a two branch legislature, and led a fight in congress against the Alien and Sedition Acts.

    The War of 1812
    The War of 1812 lasted over 3 years, it started because Britain was taking US Navy soldiers and holding them captive. The U.S. thought to start a war as a way to prevent this from happening again. During the War, the U.S. lost many battles but they did win some too. Including The Battle of New Orleans, this was a big win for the U.S. The U.S. won the war and the Natives who were fighting with the British lost their rights to fight for their land. However, Britain itself wasn't really affected.
  • James Monroe's Presidency

    James Monroe's Presidency
    James Monroe was the 5th president of the United States. He not only helped negotiate the Louisiana purchase, he also obtained the Florida State from Spain. Monroe also fashioned the Monroe Doctrine, which is a message to Europe to tell them not to interfere with the Western Hemisphere. Since Europe wanted to expand in Central and South America, the Doctrine was put in place to show Europe that the U.S. willing and able to defend the Western Hemisphere.

    The Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise started from the state of Missouri wanting to join the Union as a slave state. People began to think this was unfair because the amount of slave and free states would be uneven. Monroe decided to sign a Compromise stating that any states south of latitude 36^ 30' north would be slave states, and any states north of that would be free states (basically created a line in between). Main was also traded out with Missouri making Maine a free state and Missouri a slave state.

    John Quincy Adam's Presidency
    John Quincy Adam's served as the sixth president of the United States. He was also diplomat, Senator, and the eighth United States Secretary of State. He was also the main author of the Monroe Doctrine. John isn't really known for his government work during his presidency but he is known for his work that came before and after it. He tried to pass laws and acts like, raising tariffs and setting up a road and canal system, but they never passed, that is why many say his presidency was uneventful.

    Andrew Jackson's Presidency
    Andrew Jackson served as the seventh president of the United States. Before his presidency he was a major and is known for defeating the British at the Battle of New Orleans. He also served in the Congress and Senate before serving as a justice in the Supreme Court. Two of his major accomplishments were, paying of all the national debt and being the founder of the Democratic Party. Andrew Jackson also expanded U.S. lands and he built better relationships with foreign nations.
  • The Indian Removal Act

    The Indian Removal Act
    The Indian Removal Act was signed into order by president Andrew Jackson. Many tribes such as the Cherokee were basically held at gunpoint and told to leave their homes. Jackson thought it would make westward expansion easier and even though Congress didn't support, Jackson ordered it anyway. Natives called the journey from their original home to Oklahoma the "Trail of Tears." It got its name because of the disease, death, pain, suffering, ect. the Natives had to go through.
