Manifest Destiny was given the name in 1845. This was the idea that U.S was destined to spread it ideas. The people thought back then that justified the removal of Native Americans. This movement only led to more slavery. The addition of louisiana purchase led to more movement of people to the west.

The discovery of gold in 1848 in California was major in history. Prospectors came from all over the country trying to find the next big gold find. They came in covered wagons being pulled by horseback, almost 300,000 people came,People stacked claim all along the rivers to find gold.

In May 1862 signed the " Homestead Act" this granted the 160 acres to people for a small fee. This even involved freed slaves. People settled in the western territory. This forced the native Americans from their lands and onto reservations to make way for homesteaders.

In 1862 the pacfic railroad act was put into place so the U.S can build a railroad across the states. The construction of this railroad took over 7 years to construct. 2 companies were asked to do the job the Central Pacific and the Union Pacific Railroad Companies. People of color and asians were given the hardest jobs.

while attending the play Our American Cousin John Wilkes Booth an actor at the time and confederate follower assassinated President Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre. Lincoln was with with his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, and their guests, Major Henry R. Rathbone and Clara Harris. He passed away the next day.

Early in 1866 Congress approved an act which stated that states could not infringe on the rights of their citizens."Without distiction of race or color, previous condition of slavery or involuntary servitude". President Andrew Jackson did veto against this.

In 1876 a 29 year old inventor Alexander Graham Bell and with some help of Thomas A. Watson they created the first telephone. The first prototype used sound waves that would cause an electric current to that would vary in causing a thin, soft iron plate called the diaphragm to vibrate. The sound that would come from all that would be replicated to the other person on the other side of the line. After days of trails it had finally worked.

The creator of the bulb was Thomas Edison he put some extensive work to find a lamp. He tried to use carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires to get light.his team discovered that a carbonized bamboo filament could last over 1200 hours. It wasn't til 1880 until they started making the bulbs.

A labor protest rally turned into a riot quickly after someone thew a bomb. 8 people died during this riot and some activist were arrested as a result of the deaths. The protest began to help bring awareness to the poor conditions in the work place. The streets were crowded with almost 3,000 workers. People were given the death penalty and prison for almost 15 years.

In July 1892, a dispute between Carnegie Steel and the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers exploded into violence at a steel plant owned by Andrew Carnegie in Homestead, Pennsylvania. In what would be one of the deadliest labor-management conflicts in the nation’s history, some 12 people were killed when striking workers attacked 300 Pinkerton detectives hired by the plant’s management as security guards.

The Spanish American War started in 1898.The problem between the United States and Spain that ended Spanish colonial rule in the Americas, and the Americas aquired the land. It started when the Spanish sunk the "Maine" an American ship.

The congress sent investigators to look over the system of how the meat we treated.All animals were required to pass an inspection by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration prior to slaughter.All carcasses were subject to a post mortem inspection

The war started because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. There were mutual defense alliances among European countries. Over 16 million people died during this war

The 18th amendment was banning of making and selling liquors.Making this law only caused more crime as people started selling liquor behind closed doors. This opened the door for bootlegging and the opening of speakeasies. This didn't end til 1933.

The stock market crashed because of the rise of people investing and borrowing money. Black tuesday on that day a record 12.9 million shares were traded as investors rushed to salvage their losses.From 1929-1933 was the worst of the of crash. Uneployment would reach an all time high, this all led to the great depression. This ended a month later in November

The dust bowl was record breaking highs in temperature across the central Great Plains. The dust bowl happened in the 1930s and during the great depression. High winds caused chocking winds and even killed livestock

The New Deal was presented by President Franklin Roosevelt as soon as he got into office.The first new deal really addressed the banks by passing the Banking act also the Securities Act of 1933. This also revisted the prohibtion and they leaglized the sale of liquor.

In 1935 FDR proposed the second new deal, with more of a focus on the people instead of the goverment. He created Works Progress Administration (WPA), this was for people who were on the unemployed people so they can have a job. He also created the National Labor Relations Act, this help create unions and hep get workers their rights. Then he passed another law called the Social Security Act which gave pensions to millions of Americans.

On December 7th 1941 the Japanese army launched a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor Honolulu, Hawaii. The attack started at 8am and it started with bombing the airfields and ships. The attack killed 2,400 soldiers and 19 navy ships were wrecked.

In 1969 the U.S was the first to land on the moon,Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin were the first people to touch the moon. The trip took six and half hours from earth to the moon.The U.S made a real effort to be the first to be on the moon since JFKs promise to be the first.
