  • Period: to

    Month 1

During the first month, the baby is about the size of a pin head. The internal organs and the circulatory system are begining to form. Also at this stage, the baby's heart begins to beat.
  • Period: to

The baby now about 6 1/2 to 7 inches long and weighs 4 to 5 ounces. Eyelashes, eyebrows, and hair start to appear while their teeth are continuing to grow. At this time, the baby's organs are beginning to mature and they are becoming more active.
  • Period: to

    Month 6

As the eighth month begins, the baby is 8 to 10 inches long and weighs about 8 to 12 ounces. Even though fat is now under the skin, the baby still appears wrinkled. The baby also is starting to develop breathing movements.
  • Period: to

    Month 7

Now, the baby is about 10 to 12 inches long and weighs about 1 1/2 to 2 pounds. The baby still has the same features, but is now more active, such as kicking, followed by periods of being quiet and resting.

  • Period: to

    Month 9

At this time, the baby is about 17 to 18b inches ling and weighs about 5 to 6 pounds. As they continue to gain weight, their skin becomes more smooth as fat deposits continue. As the baby gets bigger, movements decrease due to the fact that they have less room to move around. The baby also begins to receive disease-fighting antibodies from the mother's blood and descends into pelvis. The baby is now ready for birth.
