Fetal Developement Timeline

    Week 4
    This week you may be able to find out if your are pregnant. All of the baby's organs and body parts will start to develope and continue developing to about week 10. The baby is known as an embryo during this period of time.

    Week 8
    During this week, your baby will start to develope toes, fingers, breathing tubes, and his/her lungs, Also, the baby's nerve cells in the brain will start branching out and connecting to eachother. The baby, who is the size of a kidney bean, will move and you will feel the movement.
  • Week 12

    Week 12
    This is the most dramatic week with reflexes such as fingers opening and closing, toes curling, mouths sucking, and eyes clenching. Also, your baby's nerve cells are multiplying rapidly while your baby is about two inches and about half of an ounce.
  • Week 16

    Week 16
    During this week, your baby is about the size of an avocado with a length of 4 1/2 inches and a weight of 3 1/2 ounces. Also, your baby's eyes are alot closer to the front of his head with his/her ears almost in there final position and the legs are much more developed. The pregnant woman will usually start to not feel as nauseas and feverous. You also may start to feel your baby moving during this week.

    With your baby, about the length of a banana, he measures about 10 1/2 ounces and 6 1/2 inches. The babies are measured from the top of their head to their bottoms. He/She will also start to swallow during this week which helps their digestive system.

    Week 24
    With your baby almost a foot long and a little over a pound, he/she is still fairly lean with his brain growing quickly and his tastebuds developing. His skin is sill thin with his lungs developing branches of the respiratory system. The uterus has grown to the size of a soccer ball which has risen above your belly button.
  • Week 26

    Week 26
    About a pound and two thirds and measuring 14 inches, he may be able to hear your voices and breathe in little amniotic fluid from the bubble or amniotic sac. Also, the baby is continuing to put on baby fat which makes him heavier and less lean.
  • Week 30

    Week 30
    Your baby is now 15.7 inches and almost 3 pounds. Her vision is still developing, but remains at 20/400 and the normal vision for adults is 20/20. Amniotic fluid is surrounding the baby within the amniotic sac.
  • Week 36

    Week 36
    The baby is gaining about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6 pounds and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She's shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered her body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected her skin during her nine-month amniotic bath.
  • Week 40

    Week 40
    During this week, it is often hard to say how big your baby is, The average baby is 7 1/2 pounds and 20 inches long. The skull bones are not fused yet which allows them to overlap. This is called molding when your head cells start connecting.
