In 1418 Henry built a school of navigation along with an observatory. In his school people were trained in map making, navigation and science. (1394-1460).

Bartolomeu Diaz was a Portuguese navigator and explorer. In 1488, Diaz led an expedition to Africa. He then rounded Africa to India. The expedition opened up trading routes from Asia to Europe. (1457-1500).

In 1492 Christopher Columbus set three ships to sail from Spain to what he thought was Asia. He was in hope to trade valuable foods and spices but he instead encountered North America and landed their ships in the Carribean Islands. They found Indians and mosto of Columbus's men were captured and enslaved. Columbus thought he made to Asia and he called it the Indies and its inhabitants indians.

In 1493 Columbus sent 17 ships and over 1,000 men to capture Indians and mine for gold. Columbus built a base in Hispaniola and off Southern Cuba. He spotted an Island which is now Dominica on November of 1493.

John Cabot was an Italian explorer and navigator that sailed for England. Cabot and his son set sail and landed near Labrador Newfoundland and clamed the land for England. Cabot also searched North America in hope to find a passage across North America to Asia.

Vasco De Gama was a Portugeuse explorer. De Gama saild around Africa in hope to trade and failed. He then went to India and failed to trade.

This Journey Columbus sailed farther South. He encountered Trinidad and Venezuela. Columbus was the First European to step foot on America other than a Viking.

Amerigo Vespucci was an Italian explorer. He was the first person to realize America was seperated from Asia. He discovered the Amazon river in South America.

Columbus set sail to Mexico, Honduras, Panama, and Santiago on his last trip. He was buried in hispaniola (1451-1506).

Vasco Núñez de Balboa was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. Balboa sailed to columbia in search for treasure.

Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer that sailed across the Earth. Ferdinand Magellan sailed to India and the Far East several times. He died in the Phillipines. (1480-1521)

Coronado was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. He searched for treasure in Northern Mexico.

Hernando de Soto sailed the Atlanti and was the first European to explore the Southern United States. Hernando explored Nicaragua and later lived there. Hernando also explored Florida with 600 men and spent four years looking for gold. (1500-1542)

Verrazono was an Italian navigator. He explored North America searching for a Northwest passage to Asia.

Sebastian Cabot was an explorer navigator and map maker. He sailed across the world trying to reach China. Cabot then sailded again in search for a water passage through Noth Asia. (1474-1557).

Fransico Pizzaro (1478-1541) was a Spanish conquistador who sailed for Spain and traveled most of the Pacific coast of America. Pizzaro was looking for gold. He landed on Peru and found the Incan Empire and conqured and looted it.

Sir Walter Raleigh led expeditions North and South America. In 1855 he sent colinists to the east coast of North America. Raleigh named that area Virginia. Raleigh was trying to find new settlements, and to increase trade. Other than exploring Sir Walter Raleigh was a soldier, historian and poet. (1554-1618)

Sir Francis Drake (1545-1596) was a British explorer who led an expedition to sail across the world. His vayage lasting from 1577 to 1580. Drake was told by Queen Elizabeth l to go on his exepedition with John Winter, Thomas Doughty with six ships. He sailed to Panama were he robbed Spanish ships and settlements for food and treasure. He then sailed back to England and got rewarded with 10,000 Euros. Outside of Hudsons explorer life he was a trader, and pirate working for the Government.

Henry Husdon (1565-1611) was an English explorer hired to find a waterway from Europe to Asia. Hudson sailed to Spitzbergen and found Jay Men ( an island off the East of Greenland) in 1607. Hudson did not reach Asia like he was suppoosed to.

Peter Minuit (1580-1638) was known for buying Manhattan from the Native Americans in 1626. He founded New Amsterdam on the Southern tip of Manhattan, and he also founded New Sweden. Minuit went to buy more land from the Natives and founded Fort Christina. Minuit died in a hurricane while on a trading mission in 1638.
