    Leif Erikson
    In the year 1,ooo Lief was sailing to greenland. On his way his ship was blown off course, and he ended up in North America instead. He explored a region called vinland. After spending a cold winter in vinlend he sailed back to greenland.

    John Cabot

    John Cabot
    In 1483 Cabot went to England. He thought that Asia could be reached by sailing west. He proposed to king henry Vll his plan, he said that he would pay for his own expehdition, if the king granted him a royal charter. The king agreed. He convinced the king that his route would be shorter than Columbus's route planed his to be.

    Bartholomew Dias

    In 1487, Dias began his expedition to sail around the southern tip of Africa. He then claimed the cape of good hope. He origionaly named it the cape of good storms. In 1489 Dias returned home.

    Christopher Columbus

    Christopher Columbus
    In 1492 Queen Isabella of spain paid for his expedition. The first piece of land he discovered was an Island in the Bahamas called San Salvador. Columbus thought he had reached Asia. When Columbus died he still thought he had reached Asia.

    Ferdinand Magellan
    In 1519 Magellan set out on his expedition. The expedition was funded by Spain. When Magellan and his men reached South America they began searching for a way to the other side. Magellan died on the journey, but hid men completed the journey so magellan got the credit.

    Hernan Cortes

    Hernan Cortes
    In 1521 Cortes led a group of spainards into the aztec capital. The aztecs thought the spainards were gods and welcomed them. Cortes made the leader of the aztecs, Moctezuma, a prisoner and gained control of the aztecs. Moctezuma was eventually killed and diseases killed the rest. Then came the fall of the aztec empire.

    Francisco Pizaro

    Francisco Pizaro
    Pizaro was a spanish conquistedor who thougt the Inca empire was a great source of gold. The Incas had no weapens to defend them selves. In 1532 Pizaro overthrew the Inca leader Atahualpa, and took control of Peru. Three years after that Pizaro started the new capital city of Lima.
