  • The First Plane

    The First Plane
The Wright brothers created the first airplane. It was not much more than a standard glider with a small engine and steering mechasism. They went through many trials and errors in order to make it operational including adding movable wings to control the crafts balance.

  • The Biplane

    The Biplane
Biplanes were the second evolution of the plane. It was a simple wooden and cloth plane with two wings and one large engine in the front. The planes were in most use in WWI for air recognizance and skirmishes. : WWI Aviation Development 1914 - 1918. (n.d.). WWI Aviation Pictorial History. Commercial use of Planes
After WWI people began using planes commercially. Planes began using them for travel and recreation. They also discovered the use of crop dusting. At the beginning of the 1930s, the Ford Trimotor, nicknamed the “Tin Goose” because of its corrugated metal skin, was one of the planes used for commercial passenger air travel during the 1930’s. With on room for 17 passengers and little luxury, it was very uncomfortable.

    Jets
During the early fifties, new generations of planes were being used and being mass produced. Planes were now equipped with jet engines to propel them forward at a much faster speed. These were made to replace the original propeller engines. This technology has been improved until present day. Although they were not widely used until the fifties, the first test flight took place in the late 30's. Guttman, J. (2006, June 12). Jet Aircraft Development. Jet Aircraft Development. The Call to Arms
Once again aviation technology is put to mass use in a war. During WWII there were many breakthroughs in planes in order to control the sky during the war, such as steal-armored bodies. The US began mass-producing many different planes and creating navigation devises and amphibian planes that could recue sailors in the water. : NASA. (n.d.). Modern Planes
Modern planes are now spectacles to behold. Some military planes can now surpass supersonic speed. They also have amazing internal technology, in navigation and safety, such as ejection seats. Commercial airlines now hold more than 200 passengers in comfort. Planes have now become the most common form of long distance travel. Waverly, J. S. (2009, June 22). History of Jet Planes. EHow.
