    The Marshall Plan
    Congress debated it for months. People didn't want to give away $12.5 billion. Soviets invaded into Czechoslovakia and took over the country so the Congress passed it. The plan was a great sucess both ecomonically and politically. Nutrition improved and the industry grew.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    The airlift began after World War 2. It lasted for more than 2 years and carried over 2.3 million tons of cargo into West Berlin. The Russians thought they could shut off all food connections so Berlin could finally be theres. Thus the creation of the Berlin Airlift was created.
  • Creation of NATO

    Creation of NATO
    North Atlantic Treaty Organization is where members of states come together and agree to mutual defense in response to an attack. The course of the Cold War led to problems with nations to the Warsaw Pact. The first NATO Secretary General, Lord Ismay, said that the organization's goal was "to keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down."
  • China becomes Communist

    China becomes Communist
    Mao Zedong and with Zhou Enlai as the first Prime Minister, the Communists had taken over the most populated country in the world. The chinese were very happy and excited about this. They were happy that all the suffering and aggression from foreigners, would be gone forever.

    North Korean troops started it by invading South Korea. Korea was divided into two parts. North Koreas was considered the communist side while South Korea was the democratice government side. When the invasion occured, it worried Americans because they were afraid yet another Asian country was going to fall to communism.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Treaty Organization of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance was a mutual defense treaty between eight communist states of Eastern Europe. It was established under the Soviet Union. It was the Soviets reaction to the intergation of Western Germany.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    1300 exiles, armed with U.S weapons, landed at the Bay of Pigs on southern coast of Cuba. There intension was to cross the island of Havana. President Kennedy had the option to help the exiles and use the U.S air force againest Cubans but decided not to. The invasion was stopped by Castro's army and when the fighting stopped on April 19, 90 exiles were killed and the rest were taken prison.

    At midnight, trucks full of soldiers went through East Berlin and created the wall. People didn't have a choice which side they wanted. They didn't know it would be put up that night. Which ever side they slept on that night was the side they would be stuck on. They could no longer go across boarders of East and West Berlin to see family or loved ones.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    It was a 13 day confrontation between Soveit Union, Cuba and the United States. This event was marked as the closest confrontation in turning the Cold War into a nuclear conflict. The U.S considered attacking Cuba via air and sea but instead decided on miltary blockade. The Soviets were going to attack through water and air space. The confrontation ended on October 28, 1962 when Kennedy and United Nations Secretary reached an agreement with Khrushchev.
  • Six Day War

    Six Day War
    This war was fought between Israel, the states near Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. The war began with Israel launching surprise bombings against Egyptian air-fields. Within six days, Israel had won a land war. Israeli forces had taken over of the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, and the Golan Heights from Syria.

    US sends a man to the moon
    The Space Race was between United States and Soviet Unions. Being rivals in the Cold War, the two nations were racing to have firsts explorations on the moon. It began with the Soviet launch of the Sputnik 1 artificial satellite and ended with the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project human spaceflight mission in July 1975. The United States had offically landed on the moon.

    Nationalist forces were attempting to make the country of Vietnam go under communist government and the United States was trying to prevent communist government from spreading. In the end, United States leaders lost the American's public support to the war.

    The United States beat Soviet Union and took the gold, This game was a moment in history. It is known as "The Miracle on Ice" becaues it was such a huge rivalry.
  • Fall of Berlin Wall

    Fall of Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall represented the division between Communism and democracy. On the evening of Novemeber 9, 1989 Gunter Schabowski announced that the borders were open. People were in shock and began chipping at the wall and soon enough it was destroyed. On October 3, 1990 East and West Germany reunited into one big German state.

    It broke down into 15 different countries and ended the Cold War. The Soviet Union changed the entire world political issues leading to a complete reformation of political, economic and military alliances all over the world.
