it was presidented by the US. Harry Trumann stated that we would help in an economic and warfare aid to greece and turkey to keep them from falling into communism. -
The Marshall Plan
the plan was basically to re create defistated post war region and to help make Europe a prosporous, trading and, mordernized industrial region again. -
Berlin Airlift
The US and the following alliances flew in aid and food to west berlin because we werent allowed to cross the wall. That is why we flew the supplies in because they could not controll the airways. -
Creation of NATO
This was basically an alliance between the members reasuring them is any outside country tried to attack that they would help defend them. This group did not strike anything more than a political group until the Korean War. -
Korean War
It was a war between North and South Korea. It began when South Korea set up a democratic goverment but North went with communism. The 38th parallel became a goverment split border and tension grew after many reunification plans were suggested. The tesions then escalated to a point of war. America joined in and helped South Korea fight. South Korea pushed NK back past the 38th parellel and even further. As China stepped in for NK they pushed SK and the US back towards the 38th parrellel. -
Vietnam War
North Vietnam who was supported by the communist allies and South Vietnam who was supported by the US fought back against NV. NV and the allied forces wanted to create all of Vietnam into a communist country. SV practiced guerilla warfare unlike NV who conducted group attacks with convetnial war. -
Creation of WARSAW pact
The warsaw pact was an 8 member treaty that pledged they would help anyone of the members if they were being attacked. -
Bay of Pigs
Fidel Castro overthrew cuban goverment which worried the US because of Castro's relationship with the Soviet Union. The Central Intelligence Agency alerted the president about a plan to fly two air strikes and a 1400 man invasion into a Cuban bay. The goal was to overthrow Castro and create a non-communist, US freindy goverment. Castro's army was much to strong for ours. The plan failed. -
US sends Man to the Moon
During the Cold War, the US and Soviets were in a competition for space supremicy. We sent the man to the moon before they did on May, 25 1961 -
Rise of the Berlin Wall
After WWII, germany was seperated up into four different sections. One for France, Soviet Union, America and, Great Brittian. The same was done for berlin. On one side of Berlin (West) which was runned by the US and the allied powers created a democracy unlike East Berlin creating a communist system which was controlled by the Soviets. As tensions grew more and more a wall was built seperating the two, the Berlin Wall. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The USSR and Cuba was in a confrontation with america coming closer than it had ever been in the cold war to a Nuclear War conflict. the US recieved this information that Cuba had made several nuclear bombs that could reach all acros america. -
USSR invades Afghanistan
It was part of the Cold War fought by soviet led troops against troops called majuidheens. These soliders were trained in nearby countries like China or Pakistan where the US and Saudia Arabia was spending millions of dollars to do such. -
German Reunification
Once they removed the berlin wall or in other words The Hungary Fence led to many people from east berlin to flee to west berlin and conducted many peachful protests. They then negotiated a plant that would reunify german back to 1 state. -
China goes Communist
Two parties were fighting in a civil war in China one being communist (Mao) and the other being deocratic (Jiang). Russia supported Mao and the US supported Jiang seding millions of dollars worth of aid to the country. When many people were struggling to stay alive during this part they started to support Mao because he promised to feed and help them. Jian then fled to Tiawon while Mao took over China. -
Fall of the Soviet Union
The US and West berlin had a won with democracy defeating socialism and communism leading Russia to break into 13 seperate countries also ending the cold war.
