  • Chinese revolution

    Chinese revolution
    Mao Zedong created the Peoples Republic of China or communist China. Declaring the PRC ended the cival war between communist china and the Nationalist. In 1949 china fell to communism. The united states supeneded diplomatic ties with china.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    North korea attacked the south in June. The war was between Republic of Korea lead by Syngman Rhee against the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea which was lead by Kim Il Sung. US president, Truman, ordered naval and air support for south korea. On June 23, 1951 soviets suggested a cease-fire. The US did not stop communism and spent about 20 billion dollars and 54,000 american lives.
  • Uprising in Hungry

    Uprising in Hungry
    Soviets had control over Hungary. In October 1956, Students and workers tried to force repressive leaders out of office. After, Hungary demanded other civil liberties. Moscow respond with tanks and killed about 30,000 hungarian protesters. The US protested the invasion and sent Hungary 25 million dollars.

    Sputnik Launched
    Soviets launched the first satellite into space on October 4. US created NASA and later launched Flopnik a failure of a satellite launch. On January 31,1958 the Us launched its first succcesful satellite. Soviets and The United States were in a race to delvope better weapon delivery systems and launch bigger satellites.
  • U2 Plane Shot Down

    U2 Plane Shot Down
    Fracis Gary Powers flew a U2 spy plane over Russia that was shot down. Russia accused the USA of spying and the US denied it. Later eisenhower admited that is was the US's plane . Powers was sentenced to 10 years for esiponage but was tradeed for a Soviet spy. This caused Kruschev to denounce the US and then left the Summit conference.
  • Berlin Wall Goes Up

    Berlin Wall Goes Up
    11 years since the Berlin Airlift, 3 million germans fled into West Berlin. Krushchev wanted to close all access roads to West Berlin and the us pledged to stop communism spread to West Berlin. On August 13th East Berlin soldiers began the creation of the Berlin wall. This created even more cold war tensions.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    During the summer of 1962, Soviets were sending more and more weapons to Cuba. In particular nucleaur weapons which was proved by US spy plane pictures. THe US blockaded soievt ships and had 200,000 men on Florida shores. Krushchev oftered to remove the misslies if the us would not attack Cuba. This was the closet the worldwas to nucleaur war.
  • Russia invades Afganistan

    Russia invades Afganistan
    Russia invaded to aid Amin, a communist leader. Amin was shot and replaced by a Russian Babrak Kamal. Mujahdeen rebels declared a holy war. The mujahdeen Rebels proved to be a great oppenent and proved how poor Russia's military was. This Event can be compared to a Russian Vietnam. America helped the rebels and it gave the US infromation on Russian military.
