  • Chinese Revolt

    Chinese Revolt
    The Nationalist Democratic revolt over threw the Qing Dynasty and created a republic agreement.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    This was a conflict between North and South Korea, leading to 2.5 million lives lost. Kim Il-Sung was the leader of North Korea at this time, and by the end the Koreas decided to split at the 38th paralell.
  • Sputnik Launched

    Sputnik Launched
    Sputnik is Russian for Satilite. The Russians launched Sputnik into orbit at aproxamitly 10:29 pm. Sputnik circled the earth once every 36 minutes and traved at a speed of 18,000 miles per hour.
  • Uprisings in Hungary and Czechoslovakia

    Uprisings in Hungary and Czechoslovakia
    On November 1st the Soviet Union invaded Hungary, they had come in to stop the protests and killed thousands. Again on August 20th 1968 the Soviet Union had invaded Czechoslovakia. Aproxamitly 200,000 Warsaw Pact troops and 5,000 tanks came in and crushed their brief period of Liberalization from the Comunists.
  • U-2 spy plane shot down

    U-2 spy plane shot down
    While conducting espionage over the Soviet Union, piolet Fransis Gary Powers was shot down. The Soviets captured Powers, and Eisenhower had to admit that it was indeed a US spy plane
  • Berlin wall goes up

    Berlin wall goes up
    The Comunist Government of East Germany built the wall to seperate East and West Berlin. The Berlin wall became known as the symbolization of the Cold War. On August 12 the government of East Germany closed off all acess points to West Berlin. Late in 1989 the Berlin wall was demolished.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13 day military standoff because of the Soviet Unions instalation of nuclear weapons in Cuba. On october 22 president Kenedy informed the US about the presence of nuclear weapons, and decided to have a naval blockade around Cuba.

    Russia invades Afghanistan
    At Midnight the Soviets organized an airlift into Kabul, 280 transport aircrafts were used. Each aircraft had 3 divitions of 8,500 men.
