    The Cold War Officially Starts
    Russia begins taking over countries in eastern Europe.
  • The Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan
    America sends aid to European countries such as $13 billion, food, fuel, and machinery. The plan was used to help rebuild Eurpean countries' government and economic statuses(?) for the aftermath of World War II. The plan assisted Europes economy greatly, trading made the North Antlantic Alliance, and there was a prosperity in coal and steel industries.
  • The Berlin Airlift

    The Berlin Airlift
    After the Berlin goes up and the Soviet Union continues to harass all routes out of the city, Britain and U.S. send planes to berlin to perform an airlift to get everyone out of the city. The Airlift took a surprising cost of casualties.
  • Formation of NATO

    Formation of NATO
    In response to the U.S.S.R. expansion into Europe, The European countries and democracies, along with the U.S., formed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This allowed a boost for the smaller European countries and more military protection agains the oncoming U.S.S.R. The formation of the NATO secured an alliance between all the countries within the North Antlantic region.
  • The Korean War

    The Korean War
    In the rising of the Cold War, North Korea begins heavily investing in it's military and naval forces and invades South Korea. Everyone in the United Nations scramble to send aid to South Korea to help end this conflict before it gets any more severe than it already was. But to everyone's surprise, this conflict lasted for more than 3 years. China and the Soviet Union sent aid to North Korea but not enough to seal a victory.
  • Creation of the Warsaw Pact

    Creation of the Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact joined Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union. Orginally it was called 'The Treaty of Friendship, Co-operation and Mutual Assistance.' But in reality it forced everyone of the Pact to send aid to any victim of foreign aggression or attacks. The pact was created to create an equality between the countries, making sure that one country was not seen as the dominant. But in the end, it mostly just helped the U.S.S.R. take more

    With the formation of NATO, the alliance sought to fight communism. And communist armies were marching for Vietnam. The US and not many of the other United Nations went to help stop the spread of Communism. But from the beginning the war seemed hoplessly as a 'no way to win.' And is marked as a memory never to be repeated.

    The Bay of Pigs
    America launches an attack on Cuba and was supposed to be a very well thought out and very successful attack. But the Cuban's had radar and knew everything that would happen. One thing after another went wrong and ended up a complete disaster for the U.S.

    NATO forces enforce a quarantine plan which helps halt the spread of communism in European countries. The Berlin wall was built as a definite boundary where on one side was communist and on the other was democracy. The wall stretched for miles closing Berlin off from the East and consisted of tons of concrete.

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    After the failure at the Bay of Pigs, a U.S. spy plane flew over Cuba spotting a ballistics missile being constructed. This move showed that there was a huge threat to America right at their doorstep. With the potential of Nukes so close, America then focuses more on the Carribean.

    The U.S. beats Russia in the space race to the moon. This gave a huge morale boost to the Allies fighting against the communists in the cold war. Basically shoving it in the communists' faces that "hey! we did it! we're better than you!"

    Nixon visits China
    Amidst the cold war, president nixon goes on a offical visit to china. He arrives with the intent to better the relationship between the U.S. and China. The trip established an open trade policy which is the set up for why today there are so many products that were made in China.
  • US invades Grenada

    US invades Grenada
    The war in the Carribean brings the small island of Grenada to fall into socialists hands. With thousands of Americans living on the island, the U.S. sends troops to stop the uprising threat.

    The Berlin Wall Falls
    At the diminishing of the Communist system, there was no one left to stop the protesters from destroying the Berlin wall that cut their country in half. So, all the protesters, along with some military officials, join together and destroy the wall, brick by brick.

    The Fall of the Soviet Union
    When the war finally came to a conclusion and the Communist countries reigned defeated, there was much rejoicing for all the demcratic countries. The communists were devided up into 20 areas and the 2 superpowers' conflict was finally resolved.
