    The Berlin Airlift was an airlift of supplies into East Berlin by the US and Britian. This was a major part of the war because of Soviet/communist problems coming to terms.
  • The Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was a reconstructional plan in Europe where the US would offer aid to war-damaged countries . The USSR and its allies were offered the same aid but refused due to not wanting to be in the US's debt. This is a major event because it was a act towards peace from the US but the USSR declined.
  • Creation of NATO

    Creation of NATO
    NATO, or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, was a military alliance based on the north atlantic treaty signed in 1949. This has to do with the cold war by NATO creating an alliance to defend against the USSR and the spread of communism.
  • The Korean War

    The war that broke out between North Korea and South Korea over communism in the north and democracy in the south. This connects greatly with the Cold War due to the Soviet control of North Korea and the fight over communism.
  • Creation of the Warsaw Pact

    The Warsaw Pact was a defense treaty between the 8 communist states of central and eastern Europe at the time. The treaty was established under the initiative of the Soviet Union. Considering the Cold war was about communism and the USSR, I'm pretty sure this is a big event.

    This war was a conflict during the Cold War time period in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from November 1st, 1955 to April 30th, 1975. The US viewed involvement in this as a way to prevent communist take over in South Vietnam. This connects with the Cold War between the US and USSR due to the US's strategy to 'contain' communism.

    Sputnik 1, the first artificial earth satellite, was launched by the soviet union and was visible all over earth and its radio pulses detectable. This was a main event because it started the Soviets and US's space age.
  • Bay Of Pigs

    An unsucessful invasion of of undertaken Cuba used the newly found CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) to overthrow the leftist leader, President Osvaldo Dorticós Torrado. The invading force was defeated by Cuban armed forces in just 3 days. This is significant to the Cold War by the open arms Cuba had towards socialism and their constant boasting of adopting this and strengthening bonds with the USSR. With Cuba being so close to the US it would be an advantage to the USSR if war ever broke out.

    A war between Israel and Egypt, Jordan, and Syria in 1967 for 6 days. This is a major event in the cold war due to US and Soviet influences during the war.
  • US Sends Man to the Moon

    US Sends Man to the Moon
    Apollo 11 carried the first humans to the moon under US control in 1969. 2 men, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, stepped onto the moon for the first time in history. This was a major event due to the Soviet and US fight for higher flights in the space age.

    Fidel Castro Comes to Power in Cuba
    Fidel Castro was a cuban communist revolutionary and later became Prime Minister of Cuba in 1959 and president in 1976. Considering he was a very strong supporter of communism and ruled Cuba, he became a huge part of the Cold War.
