  • Celoron's expedition

    Celoron's expedition
    In June 1747, concerned about the incursion and expanding influence of British traders, the Governor-General of New France, ordered Pierre-Joseph Celoron to lead an expedition through the area. It was to confirm the original French claim to the territory, determine the level of British influence, and impress the Indians with a French show of force. This is important because it began the contact of the French and Indians, which led eventually to the French and Indian war.

    Albany Plan of Union
    Benjamin Frankiln tried to unite the rival colonies in order to defeat the French and Indians. It's important because the colonies would fall to the French if they could not unite.

    All French territory on the mainland of North America was lost. (Following the French and Indian War). The Americans proved they could work together to defeat a common foe. Before long, they would do so again.

    The Proclamation of 1763 merely became part of the long list of events in which the intent and actions of one side was misunderstood or disregarded by the other.
    This led to disputes about territory and power.

  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    Trying to show that they still had the power, Great Britain restricted westward trade and put a tax on all paper items. This cause a very large amount of unhappy and enraged citizens wanting to be independent.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    On March 5, 1770, a mob of about 60 angry townspeople descended upon the guard at the Customs House. When reinforcements were called, the crowd became more unruly, hurling rocks at the guards. Withput the officers command, soldiers shot and killed 5 men. It's important because tensions were rising.

    A tax was put on tea and sugar, which made colonist angry, and they soon showed their hatred for the tax.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Outraged by the new taxes on tea, and restictions on westward trade, colonists threw 342 chests of tea off of a Birtish trade ship.

    The Intolerable Acts
    The colonists had to be punished for their rebellious actions, so many more rediculous acts were created to be upheld by the colonies.
