    2020:January: Plane crash in Iran
    On January 8, a Ukrainian International flight crashed in Iran, killing all 176 people on board. The majority of passengers were Iranian and Canadian. A spokesperson for the aircraft said it was checked two days prior with no issues. On January 11, it was revealed that the crash was due to missiles launched by Iran, though those missiles were not purposely sent on the plane. (CNN)

The IOC has since announced that it is considering postponing the Olympics, but it will not cancel. On March 23, the IOC announced that the Olympics will be delayed one year, so it will take place Summer 2021

    On May 4, a highly venomous and invasive hornet species, dubbed “Murder Hornets,” have been spotted in the US. The hornets originated in Asia, but have now been spotted in Washington state. They have been killing the already dying bee population in the state. The hornets are longer than two inches, and if stung multiple times, a human can die from the sting. (CNN)

    On June 27, Colorado protesters shut down Highway 225 to protest the death of Elijah McClain, which occurred last August. McClain died after suffering from a heart attack that is allegedly correlated to the chokehold he was placed in by an officer. The case has been opened for investigation. On June 29, Mississippi’s legislature passed a bill to remove the Confederate Flag symbol from the state flag. Mississippi’s governor has stated he will sign the bill into law. (CNN)
