  • Albany Plan

    Albany Plan
    This was a plan to bring the 13 colonies together as a unified government. It was eventually rejected by the colonial assemblies and British representatives.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    This act required all American colonists to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. This tax also had to be payed in British currency, not colonial paper money. The colonists were angry because they claimed they had already paid their taxes and debt for the war and that the nex tax was unfair.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A confrontation in which British Army Soldiers shot and killed several people after being harassed by a mob that was throwing rocks. This was seen as unfair by the colonists since the mod was only armed with rocks.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    This was a protest by the colonists of the Tea Act. The colonists destroyed an entire shipment of tea sent by the East India Company, which didn't have to pay taxes to sell tea in the colonies. The colonists felt this was a violation of their rights and rebelled.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    A meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies that was called in response to the intolerable acts. They were discussing options to respond to this and decided to petition for King George III to redress the grievances.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Punitive laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 in response to the Boston Tea Party. These took away self governance and historic rights of Massachusetts, sparking outrage in the colonies.

    This meeting between the colonies was called to discuss their plan of action after violence had erupted between Britain and the American colonies.

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The first battle of the Revolutionary War between Britain and the colonists. Paul Revere rode to warn the Massachusetts Minutemen about the British marching on Concord.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    A collection of complaints against the king, the declaration of independence from the king, and the goals the colonists planned to achieve in their new country.
