    The Albany Plan
    This meeting was to discuss the problems of colonial trade and attacks by the French and Indians. Benjamin Franklin proposed that they should have a congress of delegates from the each one of the 13 colonies. The albany representatives agreed on it but the colonies and Crown did not.

    This law required the use of tax on all legal documents. The taxes were denounced because of "taxation without representation".

    Mob violence led to the British troops in Boston fired into a crowd, killing 5 people.

    A disguised group of men went boarded 3 tea ships going to Boston Harbor, and they dumped all the British cargo into the sea.

    New laws passed by the Parliament were denounced in America as the Intolerable Acts
  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress
    Delegates from every colony (except Georgia) met in philadelphia. For 2 months they discussed the situation and plans of action. The wrote about the "natural-born subjects" in their letter for King George III.The delegates told all colonists to refuse trade with the British until the unfair laws and taxes were removed,

    The Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia, as did the First. They became the nations first government for 5 years. In just over a month of being started, they had already formed the Continental Army.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    Congress put together a committee of 5 men who were to write a proclamation of independence. The writing had many ideas that originated from John Locke, specifically natural rights and the social contract theory. On July 4th, 1776 the congress adopted the Declaration of Independence.
