Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were shot and killed when they were visiting Sarajevo in Bosnia. A lone assassin is believed to have killed them. The assassination is what I believe started the beginning of WWI.

Austria-Hungary declare war on Serbia in case of Russian militarism exactly one month after Franz Ferdinand and his wife are killed.

Russia threatens and starts to move troops. Germany then warns Russia, so they begin to mobilize themselves.

Germany declares war on Russia. A couple days later on the 3rd Germany declares war on France.

First, the British troops land in France. French land a quick victory which ignites the French-German action of the war. About 27,000 French soldiers were killed per day.

Great Britain enacts the (DORA), Defense of the Realm Act which gives the government power to control the economy and daily life.

Britain and France declare war on Austria-Hungary. They invade Serbia.

Russia invades Germany in which they attack into East Prussia, forcing the outnumbered Germans there to fall back stated by The History Place (2009).

Main German armies continue moving westward and invade France. This plan was referred to as the Schlieffen Plan. They used a counter-clockwise movement into France.

Japan declares war on Germany. The Japanese assist the British to get rid of the Germans from the East. The Germans have a base on the coast of China, Samoa and other places.

British troops disrupt the Schlieffen Plan. The Germans start to withdraw northward as the Allies start to proceed.

The Germans launch a major attack on Ypres in Belgium. They send out soldiers straight out of school, some 17-20 years old.

The French give out a series of attacks along the Western Front against Germans. The French fail to make gains until they are both eventually suspended.

A truce occurs on Christmas Day between German and British soldiers within the trenches of Northern France. They engaged in games, caroling, and exchanging of gifts.
