Events leading to the Revolutionary War.

  • The Albany congress

    a meeting was held between the British and the Iroquois. The British were trying to get the Iroquois to start an alliance with them so they could win the war. Ben Franklin wanted the British to have authority over the western settlements, The Albany congress agreed to this but the colonies rejected this.

    Pontiac's War

    Pontiac the leader of Ottawa nation started an alliance with western Native Americans, to attach British forts and settlements through the area Pontiac and the Native Americans killed at least 2,000 back country settlers,and destroyed nearly half a dozen forts. British attached with the same viciousness.

    French and Indian War

    French, Huron,and Algonkin vs. British, Iroquois and Colonists. A war between the two for control over the Ohio river valley , they fought for territory. After the French lost they had to give up most of there land.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris was a document that said the British got most of the French's Territory they got everything east of the Mississippi, and Spanish Florida. Spain got everything east of the Mississippi and New Orleans.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The proclamation was to bane colonial settlement west of the line drawn along the appalation mountians. To stop wars with the native americans
  • The Stamp Act

    The tax act required that all colonists buy special tax stamps for all kinds of products. They would tax newspapers,wills,licenses,etc.. Henry made an emotional speech protesting against the stamp act. After all the protest Parlement repelled the stamp act
  • The Quartering Act

    The Purpose of the Quartering act was to save money . To enforce the proclamation Britian kept about 10,000 soldiers in the colonies. The act requierd colonist to house or quarter the British troops.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre is when colonist were angry because of the tax on all of there items. They started a fight with British Troops that caused 5 people to die and 6 wounded. Most people bereaved that the British troops started the fight but on 2 soldiers were charged with man slaughter
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act was made so that East India was the only tea company that came to the British Colonies.This act hurt a lot of local merchant because many merchants smuggled Dutch tea into the colonies. Now they can not compete with the lower prices of the East India tea. Finally many colonial leaders argued that even though the tea was cheaper there was still a tax on it.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was a group of colonists called the sons of liberty they wanted ti stop The East India tea company from being unloaded.They would threaten captains that were bringing in the tea,and merchants that said they would buy it. No tea was unloaded in New York, Philadelphia,or other ports. in Boston Governor Thomas Hutchinson decided he would make sure all the tea was unloaded, two weeks later men dressed like Natives climbed aboard and threw over about 90,000 pounds of tea.
  • Intolerable Act

    many colonist called the four harsh laws that parliament passed the Intolerable act, one of the harsh laws was that the port of Boston closing. Two other acts increased the power of the government. Finally the fourth law strengthened the Quartering act.
  • First Continental Congress

    This was a meeting taken place in Philadelphia,between twelve of the 13 colonies only Georgia did not send representatives the congress fought to repeal of the Intolerable act,and declared the colonies had a right to tax and govern themselves.
  • The Battle of Lexington and Concord

    General Thompas Gage learned that minutemen were storing arms in concord about 20 miles from Boston. He sent 700 troops to seize the arms and some important colonial leaders. Five miles from concord in the town of Lexington about 77 men were waiting for the troops to arrive. Suddenly a shot rang out nobody knows who it was. this turned out to be the first shot of the revolutionary war. A larger battle took place nearby. This time there were 400 minutemen leaving Britain defeated.
  • The Battle of Fort Ticonderoga

    At night 83 men invaded Fort Ticonderoga and surprising the British Troops in the early morning, this was one of the most important Battles. This was important because it controlled the main route to Canada , and it held Canons and other weapons.
  • The Second Continental Congress

    This was the second meeting, many colonists still were not happy, this meeting met in Philadelphia. The congress at first was divided on what to do. delegates from New England wanted to declare Independence. A more moderate group from the middle colonies favored less drastic actions. however all delegates felt that they had to prepare for war.
  • The Battles of Bunker and Breeds Hill

    British General William Howe decided to attach strait up Bunker Hill. He knew his troops did not have much ammunition but he still went for it .The Americans waited until the British were 150 feet away to fire. Hundred of British soldiers fell dead or wounded. The first and second attempts failed,but the third the British won because the Americans ran out of ammunition.
  • The Olive Branch Petition

    The Olive Branch was a petition that was sent to the king. The petition stated that all colonists were loyal to the king,and ask king George to stop the fighting. The petition got its name from the Olive Branch.
  • The invation of Quebec

    Two armies headed North To Canada ,one led by Richard Montgomery the other led by Benedict Arnold. Arnold's troops were forced to eat candles bark and shoe leather. The Americans attached Quebec. the attach was turned back. Montgomery was killed and Arnold was wounded. The Americans finally withdrew in may.
  • The British withdrawl from Boston

    In March, Washington placed the canons on high grounds over looking Boston. The British could no longer defend the city. In March they withdrew from from Boston by Sea and never returned. Even through the Americans Washington knew the war was far from over.
