    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine consisted of Harry Truman asking for $400 million for economic and military aid to Greece and Turkey. This document also lead US diplomacy for the next forty years. This doctrine relates to the Cold War because it temporarily stopped the spread of communism.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was the European Recovery Act set up by America. It was for the United States to give monetary aid to help rebuild European nations after World War II. This affected the Cold War because it stopped West Germany from becoming Communist due to the destruction.
  • NATO

    NATO
    This stands for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It is an intergovernmental military alliance. This treaty supports the fact that the countries involved in the treaty will defend each other at all costs. This was formed as a cooperative, mutual-defense treaty against the threat of Soviet invasion from Eastern Europe.

    The Korean War consisted of North Korea versus South Korea in the fight for Communism. The north side supported Communism, and the South side opposed, gaining the support of the United States. This affecterd the Cold War because it escalated the war.

    Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were accused of espinage, releasing information to the Soviet Union about the military uses and plans. This affected the Cold War because they were the first people to be executed because of a spy trial. Also, there were debates over whether the death penalty was fair.

    The Warsaw Pact is the name for the treaty between Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union. It was signed in Poland in May of 1955. It was significant to the Cold War because the goal of the treaty was to get revenge on the United State's NATO.

    This war was fought between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam believed in Communism and had the support of all Communist allies. South Vietnam was supported by the United States and any other country that wasn't in support of Communism. It was significant to the Cold War Vietnam War because communists wanted to take over South Vietnam, and since the US had made opposing communism one of its goals, so the US helped South Vietnam fight communism.

    The Bay of Pigs was an invasion of Cuba that failed. The bombs were launched from Guatemala, but defeated by the Cuban Armed Forces. This affected the Cold War because it caused more problems, reasons to fight, and escalated the war.

    The Berlin Wall was important because the East German government saw no other way for escape to the west via Berlin without a wall. The border between East and West Berlin closed on this date. It was significant to the Cold War because it marked the end of the Cold War.

    Apollo 11 carried the first man to the moon. Neil Armstrongwas the first to step foot on the moon, and stayed on the moon for about two and a half hours. This is important to the Cold War because it was a contest between the countries to get the first man to the moon and the United States was able to hide the pictures from the Soviets.

    Nixon visited China, which allowed the formation of relations to take place between the United States and the Republic of China. It was the first time these two countries had been on the same side in twenty-five years. This was significant to the Cold War because it pit the PRC with the U.S. against the Soviet Union.

    These summer olympics occurred in Munich, Germany, and the big event of this sert of olympics is that eleven Israeli olympians were murdered. They were killed by eight Palestinian terrorists. The terrorists released 234 Palestinians that were being held in Israel. During a failed attempt at rescue, all of the remaining hostages and five of the terrorists were killed, three terrorists were wounded. This affected the Cold War because they were prepared for attacks.

    The Berlin Wall kept people from going to the east or west side of Berlin, with guards shooting down anyone that tried to pass through. The wall came down as a peace sign, with the two sides coming to get along.

    Collapse of the Soviet Union
    The collapse of the Soviet Union occurred on Christmas Day in 1991, separating into fifteen different countries. Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan decided that they would no longer be a part of the Soviet Union. This is significant to the Cold War because it showed that democracy had won over totalitanianism.
