Events during the American Revolution

  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    This act increased the taxes on imports of sugar. The colonists were paying more and more money for sugar so the British Army could have what they needed and wanted. This started an issue of taxation without representation.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    This act states the law that printed items, such as newspapers, had to be printed on special paper that came from Great Britain. These items were extremely expensive and increased the taxes on certain items.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea Act increased the taxes on products such as tea and caused a huge uproar.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    This started a series of acts such as: The Boston Port Act, The Administration of Justice Act, The Massachusetts Government Act, The Quartering Act, The Quebec Act.
  • The Battle of Fort Moultrie

    The Battle of Fort Moultrie
    Fort Moutlrie was built on Sullivan’s Island. It was surrounded by trees that are special to the state of South Carolina, palmetto trees. The trees would not break or crack when bombs would hit them. A flagstaff was broken during this Battle. William Jasper recovered the flag and made it fly high again on a temporary flag staff.

    Thomas Jefferson wrote the Dec of Ind. This is a documentation of the colonies establishing their independence from Great Britain.
  • Battle of Kings Mountain

    Battle of Kings Mountain
    Maps were not near as accurate as they are today; So during this battle, we are still not sure if this was fought in South Carolina or North Carolina, the answer is unsure.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    Battle of Cowpens
    Fell under the British brigade and tried to fight back.
  • The Battle of Eutaw Springs

    The Battle of Eutaw Springs
    Last major battle in the Carolinas. This was considered one of the most gory and bloody battles in the Revolutionary War.
