    Industry vs Inferiority

    1. (age 10) excels in school. When she falters, her family takes the time they need to support her the best they can. This creates a sense of competence in her school performance.
    2. This stage can build/damage self-confidence. If the child has the support needed for success, they feel competent (Industry). If children do not have the support they need to be successful, they will start to feel like a failure and that they are incompetent (inferiority).
  • Identity vs Role Confusion

    1. Madison (age 16) gets a psychological evaluation due to ADHD symptoms. Her school and social performance have declined steadily, making it hard to maintain grades and friends. She has difficulty exploring her identity regardless of parent support.
2.. This stage focuses on fidelity and experimentation. Success in this stage boosts self-confidence, independence, and uniqueness (Identity). When a child can't explore themselves, they feel unsteady about where they belong (Role Confusion).
  • Generativity vs Stagnation

    Generativity vs Stagnation

    1. Madison (age 47) is celebrating the 5th anniversary of her successful private practice as a Psychiatrist for adolescence with mental disabilities with her supportive children and loving husband.
    2. This stage is all about caring and helping the next generation succeed. Adults making moves to contribute to better the world, they are taking the path of generativity. They are being productive. However, going down the path of stagnation often involves self-centered, unproductive behavior.
