  • Stage 4: Industry Vs. Inferiority

    Stage 4: Industry Vs. Inferiority
    Maddie (7) attended school every day and always did her homework. This allowed her to learn how to read well.Since she was so excited about being able to read, she began reading anything and everything to anyone. In Erikson's fourth stage, industry vs. inferiority, the crisis is between being able to learn what is necessary for​ one's culture and developing a sense of industry or being unsuccessful in learning the necessary skills for one's culture and developing a sense of inferiority.
  • Stage 5: Identity Vs. Identity Confusion

    Stage 5: Identity Vs. Identity Confusion
    Maddie (13) becomes the first chair flute player in the school band and becomes friends with many of the other band members. In Erikson's fifth stage, identity vs. identity confusion, the crisis is between being able to develop an awareness of who one is and one's capabilities as well as their place within their culture or not being able to achieve these things.
  • Stage 7: Generativity Vs. Stagnation

    Stage 7: Generativity Vs. Stagnation
    Maddie (32) helps her son with his project for the science fair. In Erikson's seventh stage, generativity vs. stagnation, the crisis is between contributing to the well-being of future generations (generativity) or only focusing on one's self (stagnation).
