    -Wife of John Eaton (secretary of war)
    -Was rumored for being married to another man when courting with john, other cabinent members & family wouldn't hang out with them
    -In the 1828 election, Jackson was critisized for the same isssue & his wife dies of a stroke weeks before he enters office, Jackson gets mad and requires them to hang out with the eatons
    -Led to Jackson firing his whole cabinent except for unmarried Martin Van Buren who sided with the Eatons. Made Buren his VP

  • Indian Removal Act

    The Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee-Creek, and Seminole) were well established as autonomous nations in SE US.
    Jefferson's policy:accept the Native Americans' rights to their homelands-All Native Americans who had adopted a civilized behavior could remain east of the Mississippi
    AJax forces them out of land, cherokee sue, supreme court rules they can keep land, ajax vetos, leads to trail of tears.

  • Bank Veto

    Vetos a bill that recharters the bank of US
    He argues that the Bank gives privilege and unfair advantage to a wealthy few at the expense of the public, and he opposes foreign ownership of Bank stock. The President claims the same right to interpret the Constitution as Congress and the Supreme Court when he questions the constitutionality of the Bank.
