In his book The President Has Been Shot, James L. Swanson tells of Lee Harvey Oswald, the man who shot President Kennedy. Oswald was a Communist who left the Marines, and defected to Russia where he lived for 3 years. When he returned to the U.S. he thought people would appreciate him, but that didn't happen.

“In August 1963, Oswald was arrested after a street brawl with Cuban anti-Communists who objected to his distribution of pro-Castro literature. … Lee Harvey Oswald participated in two new Orleans radio shows to discuss Cuba, Communism, and Marxism” (58). When he decided to assissnate Kennedy, he made plans to move to Cuba, thinking the Cuban government would honor him as a hero. Oswald committed murder in order to demonstrate loyalty to the Communist idea.
