Only a few months after her mothers death, her father, Elliot died.

After her fathers death, she had to move in with her grandmother in Manhattan. She didn't like it there because it was dark and gloomy with no area for children to play. The only time it was fun there was when her uncle came to visit.

When she turned 15, her grandmother sent her to Allenswood, a private school. There Ealonor learned to take better care of herself. Although she didn't like competitive activities, she tried out for the hockey team. She was accepted there. She was nicknamed "Totty" and people left books and flowers in her locker. Her self esteem was boosted when she went to Allenswood
-
When Ealonor was going to start her fourth year at Allenswood, her grandmother pulled her out. She wanted her to go to parties and be like any other Roosevelt. Her old worries began to come back after she left Allenswood.
-
Theodore Roosevelt fell for Ealonor. When Ealonor asked if his affections for her were forever, he said yes. A few years later, they got married
