    The 1944 Education Act - the Butler Act
    R.A.Butler was a Conservative politician and in 1944 was President of the Board of Education.Important in education reform this Act established education into the stages of primary and secondary.More controversially, it also introduced the Eleven Plus and the Tripartite System which divided secondary schools into grammar schools,secondary modern schools and technical schools.

CXC's were phased in year to year from the late 70's as many persons in and outside of education held them in high regard.

    After a break I attended sixth form in 1983. The sixth form at York Castle High School broke away to form Brown's Town Community College in 1972.It has since expanded to include vocational,business,agricultural and performing arts courses.

    I did an MEng degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering (2002 - 2006).During this time the mantra was Education!Education!Education! under the Labour Government.Prime Minister Blair wanted to get 50% of young people going to university.
    I was aware of some policies at the secondary level,viz: the introduction of city academies and foundation schools;the increase in the number of specialist schools and the strategy of Every Child Matters (2003) after Victoria Climbie's death in 2000.
