    Post World War I Standardized Testing
    Standardized Testing is still a major part of classrooms in American schools today. Although is was originally created for the military, it is an easy and cost-effective way for teachers to assess students knowledge. They also allow for easy comparison of the knowledge of children from different cities and different parts of the country, which allow public schools to determine what areas children may be lacking. They are then able to adjust to best help each child to succeed.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    Brown v. Board of Education was a major event that changed classrooms to this day. All children deserve the right to have access to an equal education, and this court ruling made a step in a positive direction by allowing African Americans this right. Even though schools are more segregated today then in 1954, any African American can attend any public school they choose to.
  • A Nation at Risk

    A Nation at Risk
    A Nation at Risk was a wake up call for America. It brought to light that America was falling short in certain subjects compared to children in competing countries. The result of this report increased accountability in public schools and implemented minimum competency tests.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
    Children with disabilities were now able to go to school with their peers and be integrated into normal classrooms as much as possible. They were entitled to be treated like normally functioning children while still receiving the specialized education they needed based on their disability.
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
    No Child Left Behind really concentrated on the under-served. It aimed to bridge the gap among different populations of students. NCLB held schools and teachers accountable for how each student was doing academically.
