  • 1944 Education Act

    1944 Education Act
    The 1944 Education Act changed the education scene by making School Education free until students are 18 and raising the compulsry age to 15. Additionally it changed the structure education structure into Primary Secondary and Further.
    This act create Local Education Authorities and gave them the responsibility of providing primary and secondary schools in their area. The act was responsible for schools to be inspected. It also the first act that made provisions for special education needs.

  • 1958 white paper

    This paper empathsised local authorities to establish secondary education that was non selective
  • Newson Report

    This report looked at 13-16 of average and less than average intelligance and urged they had more of the education budget spent on them.
  • New qualification CSE introduced

    New qualification CSE introduced
    A report by Beloe recommended that a new exam be introduced for less accademic students. This became the Certificate of Secondary Education. This new exam was introduced in 1965. http://www.educationengland.org.uk/documents/beloe/
  • Plowden Report

    This was for primary education, and made the point that the child needs to be the centre of education.
  • Education (Milk) Act 1971

    Education (Milk) Act 1971
    This act made sure all students have access milk.
  • Leaving age changed

    The leaving age was changed to 16.
  • 1976 Education Act

    Due to pressure that said that selction based on the 11+ exam was wrong. This act said that their should be no selection process in schools, Unfortuently there was lots of loops holes and exceptions that thisactually didn't happen.
  • 1976 Act was repealed

    The act was repealed by the conservative goverment the compulsry age of education was lowered to 15.
  • GCSE Introduced

    GCSE Introduced
    The first classes doing GCSE's started this year.
  • 1988 Education Act

    This act introduced the National Curriculum and set levels and assessments.

  • White Paper Excellence in school

    Encourage schools to become specialist schools. This effected my sceondary education as towards the end of my secondary education my school were trying to become specialised in Science.
  • School statement and framework act.

    Allowed selection of pupils on there specialism.
  • Herts and Essex High School

    Herts and Essex High School
    I attended The hertfordshire and Essex High School, which was a comprehensive all girls School. I did my GCSE's and A levels at this School. During this time I was influenced by the 1998 national Curiculum and the GCSE act. My school also tried to get a specialism so was influenced by that.
  • 2002 Education Act

    Introduced academies these are private school paid for by the state sponsered by buisness. The idea were these academies would replace failling schools. This idea is to improve standards.
  • 2004 Children Act

    This act introduced the idea of every child matters.
