EDUC 201: Reflection Journal - Literacy Process

  • Learning How to Read and Write

I began learning how to read and write at the age of 3.
  • Writing without Assistance

(2006-2007). Once entering kindergarten, I was able to write basic sentences without any assistance.
  • Reading Children's Books without Assistance

At the age of 6, I began reading children's books without the assistance from an adult.
  • 1st through 2nd Grade

(2007-2009). In 1st and 2nd grade, I felt really confident in my reading and began reading the "Junie B. Jones" collection.
  • 3rd Grade

(2009-2010). My confidence in reading dropped because I felt as though my reading skills weren't as good as I thought since I was placed into extra reading classes.
  • Reading Level Increase

Since I practiced reading more at home, my reading skills increased to a 6th grade reading level by the time I entered 4th grade!
  • 5th and 6th Grade

(2011-2013). I was told by teachers that my reading and writing skills were amazing and to continue the great work.
  • 7th Grade

(2013-2014). My confidence level dropped in reading again because I was placed into the Avid program.
  • Reading Practice

Since I've had the same experience happen in elementary school, I applied the same reading practice techniques at home which helped my reading skills again.
  • High School and College

(2015-Present). Throughout high school and so far in college, I wasn't placed into any reading courses which made me gain an interest in reading again.
