Britain, France, The United States, and The Soviet Union occupy Berlin
When WWII ended, Germany and Berlin were split into 4 sections. This was to prevent Germany from ever gaining too much power again. Each section was controlled a little differently than the rest. -
Greek Civil War
It was a surrogate war that the Soviet Union and the U.S/ Britain were apart of. It was a battle for communism, and both side were determined to win. -
The Truman Doctrine
This policy stated that the U.S. was willing to help any free nation from becoming communism. Truman made the policy to prevent some Eastern European coountries like Greece and Turkey from falling into USSR control. -
Czech falls to communism
Since the USSR helped Czech out of Nazi Germany's control in WWII, the Soviet Union had a big influence on Czech. The government was slowly being replaced by communism until it was declared a People's Republic. -
Greek Civil War ends
U.S. successfully helped Greece from falling into the Soviet's hands. Greece is now a nation free of communism. -
Warsaw Pact Forms
Eight communist countries make a treaty for political and military alliance. The countries were: Albania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, East Germany, and the Soviet Union. It was ultimately made to go against NATO, which was against communism. -
Soviet Tanks roll into Hungary to re-establish Soviet power
A Hungarian revolt spontaneously takes place as people, nationwide, revolt against the People's Republic of Hungary (communist government that contained Soviet policies). The revolt was successful and a free government was established. Hungary also manage to free its self from the Warsaw Pact, but it did not last for long. On Nov. 4th, Soviet tanks crushed through Hungary, killing 2,500 Hungarians along the way. Communism was quickly adopted again as another communist government was set up. -
Berlin Wall
East Germany builds the Berlin Wall to seperate East and West Berlin. Although the Soviets built the wall, it was a great way from having facist ideas enter into West Berlin (U.S., France, Britain). -
Berlin Wall is officialy taken down
As the Cold War comes to an end, East Germany decided to allow for people to cross over to the other side of Berlin. Soon after this celebratory event, word was given to start demolition on the wall.
