  • The Austrian Anschluss

    The Austrian Anschluss
    During the year 1937 Hitler announced that he wanted all of the German speaking people to unite because he believe that they could expand. Hitler wanted Germany and Austria to unite and become a bigger Germany. Hitler threatened to invade Austria if the Austria Nazi’s weren’t given a government post. The chancellor of Austria agreed with Hitler, but his words were never put into action. As a result of this Hitler invaded Germany and Austria.
  • The Munich Crisis

    The Munich Crisis
    Hitler's next plan was to have the German speaking countries unite and become one. But the Germans would have to fight the other countries in order for them to unite. The Germans were going to attack Czechoslovakia but the French were threatened the Germans not to fight them. At the Munich Conference the British, French, Italians and the Germans agreed to Hitler’s demands. The supporters had limited demands for Hitler but they exchanged for peace.

    The Nazi-Soviet Pact
    On August 23, 1939 a pact was signed and it divided Poland between Germany and the Soviet Union. September 1, 1939, Poland was invaded by Germany and just two days later Britain and France teamed up to fight against Germany. Blitzkrieg was a new way of fighting by the Germans, it was lightning war when mass number of weapons would be dropped on the opponent.By October 5, 1939 the Polish military was defeated by the Germans.

    Hitler Demands Danzig
    After the Munich Conference, Hitler wanted the Germans to have control over Danzig. Ever since World War I the city of Danzig had belonged to Poland, but at this time ninety percent of the people living in Danzig were German. Hitler also demanded that a highway and railroad system be built across the Polish Corridor. After the demand of Hitler, France and Britain both agreed that they would help Poland if they fought for their land. Later in may 1939, Hitler ordered the Army to invade Poland.

    The Invasion of Poland
    The German military invaded Poland and within weeks the Poland military was defeated. Germany had more than 2000 tanks and 1000 planes that attacked the Poland military and then advanced to the Warsaw. Warsaw knew they were going to get defeated so on September 17, 1939, they surrendered. Britain and France stood on the side helping aid Poland keep the land they had. On October 3, 1939, German has declared war on Poland again. Later in October Germany directly annexed the Poland Territories.

    The fall of France
    The French had fallen in the war. After World War I the French had built the Maginot Line which was a line of concrete bunker. The Germans always waited behind the Maginot Line for two reason. One was to allow Germany to fight Poland before they faced the British and French. The second reason was to help protect Hitler when he faced the France border. The British and French army had left some troops in the mountains and then they ended up getting trapped in Belgium.
  • The Evacuation of Dunkirk

    The Evacuation of Dunkirk
    Once all of the troops were in Belgium the Germans were in hopes to drive them. From there the troops of Britain and France would evacuate there remaining soldiers by sea in the one port of, Dunkirk. Between May 26 and June 4th troops were evacuated across the English Channel so that they could go back home. It was a long six week battle that resulted in a failure for them. One their way back home the troops were also hit with a Germany economic blockade. The British then helped defend France.

    The Battle of Britain
    The Battle of Britain was a turning point in World War II. The Battle started in the air when German and Britain air forced collided in the sky over the United Kingdom. Germany wasn’t able to have planes in the air after this. Britain’s victory saved them.On June 17, 1940 the French had been defeated and they decided to quit the war. The Germans waited for the British to surrender.The British attacked by air and the Germans were losing lost of soldiers so Hitler decided to suspend the battle.
